Changan cumulative sales surpassed one million units, a sales increase of 16% Y-T-D

On May 7th, Changan Automobile announced its April 2015 cumulative sales. In April, Changan produced 240,872 vehicles and sold 227,257 units, a production increase of 6.09% year-over-year. April sales were up 5.79% versus April 2014. Through April, Changan produced 983,796 units, an increase of 11% compared to the first four months of 2014. Also through April, and with joint venture brands, Changan sold 1,032,015 units - a 16.28% increase versus April 2014 YTD.  It is worth noting that this was the first time Changan sales exceeded one million units in the first four months of any year.

Looking at Changan branded vehicle sales:

Changan branded vehicles are sales are growing at an accelerated pace. Moving a total of 606,300 passenger and commercial vehicles through April brought year-over-year sales growth of 20%. Changan brand passenger vehicles alone posted 397,300 sales through April, a 48% gain.

The newly launched CS75 sold 56,100 units from the first of the year through April. The CS35 moved 62,100 units in the same time frame, an increase of 71% over last year. Eado was up 45% with 70,200 unit sales. The Alsvin line sold 49,600 units, up 11% largely on the success of the Alsvin V7. On the commercial side, Honor posted 72,600 sales - up 30% compared to January through April 2014.  Eulove had sales of 22,500, and increase of 22% over April 2014 YTD.

Taking a look at Changan's joint venture performance:

Changan joint venture brands had mixed results in the first four months of this year. Among those brands, Changan Ford sold 72,800 units (largely due to Kuga momentum), an increase of 6.26%. However, Changan Ford posted must smaller gains during the month of March - up only 2.87%. With a sales dip of 23.87% in March, Changan Suzuki sales declined overall by 32.60%. Due to the new Axela, Changan Mazda posted 12,000 sales, gaining a year-over-year increase of 143.38%. Among Changan Suzuki vehicles, Axela had sales of 7,464 units, while CX-5 sales declined 23.81%.

According to the 2015 annual business plan, Changan's target is to both produce and sell over 2.9 million vehicles. The target calls for Changan production to rise by 10.37% and for sales to grow 13.99%. For the first four months of 2015, Changan is on target to achieve its business plan goals.
